Hosta 'Mixed' Value Pack

Gardeners Special! Value Pack! This is a fantastic mix of Hosta, adding a distinctive texture to any shade garden. Hostas, or plantain lilies, are popular because they give color and texture to perennial gardens from mid-spring until mid-fall. Large clumps of basal leaves with pronounced veining and smooth or wavy edges distinguish hostas. Leaves come in various shades of green, often with variegations. Lily-like flowers on tall stems (or scapes) in white and lavender bloom from late spring to late summer. Size and shape vary tremendously, with petite types a few inches tall for rock gardens at one end of the scale and giants with a single plant the size of a large barrel at the other. All varieties are attractive and are a favorite in the shade garden. These shade lovers have a mounded growth habit suitable for borders, specimen or groundcovers. Hostas perform well in woodland settings where filtered light is abundant. The variegated types will do better in partial shade rather than dense shade.

General Information +

General Characteristics: A near perfect perennial requiring very little maintenance and is virtually pest free. Hostas have a mounded growth habit and are ideal for a specimen plant, border, edging or woodland setting. Performs well in sun but prefers a shady location. May also be used for rock gardens, near pools, and as ground covers. Seldom needs maintenance except to cut out the old flower stalks. Prefers a well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-6.5 and about 1" of water a week. Do not over-fertilize.

Planting/Care Instructions +

Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the eyes (tender white or purple swelling protruding from the crown area) are about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.

Pests or Diseases: Chewing insects and slugs can disfigure the foliage. Leaf Spots and Crown Rot.
