Fern, Christmas

Christmas Fern is a dependable, easy-care perennial that brings rich green color and texture to shady garden spaces all year long. Its lush fronds stay attractive through winter, adding beautiful winter interest when much of the garden has gone dormant. Drought tolerant once established and naturally deer resistant, Christmas Fern is an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes. It also works wonderfully as a groundcover, helping to soften woodland gardens, fill in shaded areas, and provide excellent erosion control on slopes and hillsides. Friendly, versatile, and reliable, this native fern is a beautiful way to add lasting charm to the garden season after season.

Planting Instructions: Plant in the spring when the soil is workable. May be planted in any organically rich, well-drained soil. 1. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. 2. Set the plant in place so the crown (where the root meets the stem) is level with the soil surface. 3. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly. Fertilize once a month with a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer. Follow fertilizer package instructions.

Pests or Diseases: No serious insect or disease problems. Crown rot in poorly drained soils can be a problem, particularly in winter.
