Spring Product Care

Thank you for choosing DeGroot products and for inviting us into your home garden! We pride ourselves in delivering a wide selection of spring products with high success rates. Many of these products are dormant plants offering you the opportunity to get a head start to the season!

Why does my plant look dead?

Dormancy is a period of rest which typically begins in the fall. Due to its dormant state, our dormant plants may lack foliage until they are planted. Many of our plants may be planted before the last frost due to their dormant state. Depending on the climate and weather experienced after planting, these plants could take up to 4-8 weeks to break dormancy and show signs of growth. Please follow the instructions on the package of your plant for additional information.

If you can’t plant for a few days

If you’re not able to plant for a few days after purchase, we recommend storing your plants in a cool (40-60°F), dark place.

If you can’t plant for more than 10 Days

If you can’t get your bareroot plants in the ground right away, don’t worry—they’ll be just fine with a little temporary care. Simply place them in a container filled with well-drained soil and give them a good watering. If nighttime temperatures drop to 32°F or below, tuck the container into a protected spot like a garage. When nights stay above freezing, you can keep the container outdoors in a shady, sheltered area out of the wind until you’re ready to plant.
